How Can I Have a Grateful Heart During Breast Cancer Treatment?

How Can I Have a Grateful Heart During Breast Cancer Treatment?   oleh Jesus Daily pada 10 Juni 2011 jam 11:42

Julie Jenney is fighting breast cancer.

Hi, my name is Julie. I have breast cancer.

If ever you NEEDED a grateful heart – it is during a difficult time! During those times when one thing after another comes crashing down on your head and you’re saying, “Lord! What is going on??”.

The world seems to be falling down around us; tsunamis, floods, large land areas on fire, volcanoes erupting, banks imploding, stock market ups and downs, jobs losses, foreclosures, wars everywhere! And, this is only the big picture! Now, let’s put it on a local level; death of a spouse or a child, loss of a job, illness, not enough money to pay the bills, the list goes on!

So, how do you have that grateful heart when your heart is breaking and you’re afraid of what comes next? You take your eyes off of all those things that are lying in ruin around you and focus your eyes on Jesus – just get into that place that you go to and focus on Him.

I have a visual that “gets me there” and you may be amused, but it works for me – here it is:  I get into a quiet place, close my eyes and imagine a ladder that goes up and up into the clouds. I begin to climb that ladder and as I come up through the clouds, I reach a trap door. . .I lift it gently and peek inside, and what do I see? The THRONE ROOM of God! The crystal lake, the amazing creatures with wings and eyes, the Lord sitting on his throne – I go through the entire description of all of this as it’s described in the Bible and then I imagine the amazing singing of the angels that goes with it. Oh, wow, what an awesome experience! Believe me, when you focus on seeing and hearing al l of this – everything else just melts away.

Then I reflect on God’s awesome love and I am overwhelmed! Then I reflect on all that God has done in my life, and the things he has blessed me with; family, friends, provision. The times he has held my hand and sometimes carried me through to the other side of all the difficulties in my life! It’s impossible NOT to feel grateful! I am overcome with God’s goodness toward me.

Is this time of trouble one that He will forget? Will my file folder be dropped down behind the file cabinet, accidentally? No, it will not, nor will He forget. His grace has always been sufficient, do I think that has changed? No, it has not. Do bad things last forever? No, they do not, they pass away.

One thing that I know for sure – He loves me and He loves YOU with an everlasting love! How can you know this and not have a grateful heart?
